Description: The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is offering grant funding for the purchase or retrofit of eligible vehicles utilizing natural gas in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Commonwealth). Act 13 of 2011 provides the establishment of the Natural Gas Energy Development Program. Grants will be made from amounts deposited in the Marcellus Legacy Fund. Up to $10,000,000 will be available for this solicitation. Of that amount, $5,000,000 shall be allocated exclusively for local transportation organizations. The purpose of this program is to provide funding to support the purchase or retrofit of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) that utilize new or existing natural gas fueling stations within the Commonwealth. The objective is to increase the use of domestically produced natural gas and realize both economic and environmental benefits through the increase in the number of natural gas vehicles operating in the Commonwealth.
Eligible costs under this grant program are limited only to the incremental purchase costs of new or used natural gas vehicles and conversion costs to retrofit new or used vehicles to operate as either a dedicated liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicle, dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle or a bi-fuel vehicle. Funding may only be used for five (5) or more vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of greater than 14,000 pounds. Each grant will cover no more than 50% of the incremental purchase or retrofit cost of eligible vehicles. Grants will not provide more than $25,000 for each eligible vehicle.
