2012_DCNR Wild Resource Conservation Program
Description:  The Wild Resource Conservation Program is Pennsylvania’s biodiversity conservation program. As part of DCNR, and working closely with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, we work to conserve Pennsylvania’s non-game animals, wild plants, and their habitats. Our mission is to identify and prioritize research and conservation needs, provide grants to fill those needs, and ensure the flow of information between researchers, conservationists, and educators.

2012 Project Priorities.
Applications are being accepted for the following types of projects:
Plants
   - Surveys and status determinations for special concern species
   - Evaluation of the impacts of energy infrastructure
   - Clarifying taxonomic uncertainties
   - Effects of environmental change on species with microhabitat requirements
   - Ecological importance and conservation needs of edge-of-range species
   - Wild ginseng surveys on public lands
Mammals
   - Distribution, abundance, and genetic diversity of species of greatest conservation need
Reptile and Amphibians
   - Surveys for bog turtles, red-bellied turtles, and hellbenders
   - Status and extent of ranavirus in PA
Aquatic
   - Surveys of aquatic species and water quality in state parks within the shale gas region
Invertebrates
   - Status assessment of the Eastern pearlshell mussel
Conservation
   - Recommendations for achieving maximum species diversity in early successional habitats
Education
   - Educational media for improving habitat in parks and land trust properties
